Woodpeckers get their name from the method of feeding they prefer. These birds are insect eaters, and they find food by listening for insects crawling and chewing inside of wood. They then peck holes to get to the tunnels and use long tongues to pull out their prey. For a tree, this is survivable. For your home, this can cause some serious damage.
With holes comes pecking, and with pecking comes noise. Woodpeckers like to start their feeding at dawn, which not only means damage; it also means a loud alarm clock. Some species of woodpeckers attract mates by creating the loudest noise they can; stovepipes and gutters make a satisfyingly loud, hollow noise that they love.
What We Can Do to Help?
Getting rid of the woodpecker damage is a two-part process. First, we can work with you to remove the insect problem in your home. An insect-free structure is not somewhere a woodpecker will waste a lot of time on. Work with us to create a pest control program, and you’ll find your woodpecker troubles to be short-lived.
If your pest problem is taking some time to treat or your woodpeckers are stubbornly insisting on sticking around, we can also provide some trapping and hazing services. These programs require the correct permits, as woodpeckers are one of the many birds protected by the Federal Migratory Bird Act. Call us today! Let us worry about the permitting and relocation, and you can go back to enjoying a woodpecker (and insect)-free home.
