Well, the cold weather has arrived in Atlanta. This drives the squirrels into our attics and homes. Well built homes are few and far between in Georgia because of the loose building codes here. Squirrels in the attic of your home can cause significant damage in short order. Today Urban Wildlife Control technicians inspected a home in Marietta that had a severely damaged wire. This wire had been chewed down to bare copper for almost six inches. If the flood light was used by our customer this squirrel would’ve surely met his maker. Chewed electrical wires in the attic can be a dangerous fire hazard.
When Urban Wildlife Control technicians inspect a home that is one thing we are always on the look out for but we can not always catch every wire. If you are having electrical issues make sure you contact a certified electrician to diagnose your problem and take corrective measures immediately! The squirrels made their way into this attic by chewing on a board that had become rotten. The soffit was not constructed very well which left a portion exposed to the elements. As the home aged the board rotted.
Over the next few weeks we will trap and remove these squirrels and then begin the repair process. We will repair the wood, seal the construction gap on the roofline and screen the plastic turtle backs on the roof. Also we will remove the nesting site and deodorize the attic to help eliminate the odor that will potentially attract other squirrels. Once done our customer will be squirrel free for many years!
